Our studies focus mainly on morphological and functional evaluation of pulmonary inflammation in clinical and experimental models using chest computed tomography (CT) and positron emission tomography with CT (PET-CT) as imaging tools. We use PET-CT to characterize biological processes at the cellular and molecular levels to investigate pulmonary inflammation’s physiopathological mechanisms. These studies are based on the assumption that the development of inflammation in the lung is prior to the development of tomographic changes, and it may be identified non-invasively. Our group also develops computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) systems for automated semantic segmentation, classiﬁcation, and quantiﬁcation of pulmonary involvement using deep learning algorithms.
