Last Thursday, 10/20, the Instituto D’Or de Pesquisa e Ensino (IDOR) received two international guests, Bruce Fetzer and Jan Walleczek, at our head office in Botafogo/RJ for a lecture. The event happened in a hybrid way, with remote participants and the public present in the Auditorium. Dr. Jorge Moll, researcher, and president of IDOR’s Board of Directors, opened the event. 

Bruce Fetzer is the former President, CEO and trustee of the Fetzer Trust, Treasurer and trustee of the Fetzer Institute, recognized leader in large endowment best practices, advisor to philanthropists in science. 

Jan Walleczek, PhD is the founder of Phenosciences Laboratories, Director of Science Fetzer Franklin Fund, co-author of numerous high-impact science papers and books, and expert in biology, quantum physics, metascience, and consciousness. 

The lecture demonstrated the exploration of the frontiers of science and opportunities for integrated advances. The Fetzer Franklin Fund supports studies involving the fundamentals of science, including the development of new scientific methodologies for conventional and frontier research. The Foundation is based on four strands of research: 

• Physics: Is the world intrinsically random or fundamentally interconnected?
• Foundations: What makes scientific truth and objectivity possible? Are the foundations of science fixed or are they open to future revisions?
• Consciousness: What is “agency” and how do parts of the physical world achieve it? What is consciousness and its place in the world?
• Biology: Could there be a universal definition of life beyond DNA? Can new informational techniques reveal novel forms of living organization?

Speakers commented on the most recent initiatives involving several of these disciplines and funding initiatives.
