Epidemiological surveillance is the main objective of this research area, which works with patient care with neuroinfections and arboviruses such as dengue, zika, and chikungunya in RDSL hospitals.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the team dedicated itself almost exclusively to the new disease, participating in clinical trials of vaccines and therapeutic proposals (see box IDOR in the COVID-19 pandemic).  With the structure in place, the sector intends to continue participating in new clinical trials for vaccines against other diseases.
