Dr. Fernanda De Felice Receives Canada Research Chair in Brain Resilience

IDOR researcher is recognized by the Canadian government as one of the leading international research leaders in her field

Dr. Fernanda De Felice, a researcher at the D’Or Institute for Research and Education (IDOR) and Queen’s University in Canada, has been named a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair. This prestigious recognition, reserved for world leaders in their respective fields, highlights her significant scientific contributions to advancing the diagnosis and treatment of neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer’s disease.

Innovative and Less Invasive Approaches to Disease Diagnosis

Dr. De Felice’s research program aims to revolutionize how neurodegenerative disorders are addressed. Using cutting-edge techniques, her team investigates disease-specific nanoparticles found in blood samples, offering promising perspectives for faster, more accessible, and less invasive diagnostic methods for various conditions, including Alzheimer’s.

In addition, her research focuses on enhancing brain resilience—understanding the brain’s ability to protect and adapt to injuries and degenerative conditions. This knowledge could pave the way for novel therapies that not only treat but also prevent neurodegenerative diseases, providing significant benefits for patients and their families.

Recognizing Scientific Leadership

The Canada Research Chair title underscores Dr. De Felice’s international impact and the importance of her research. As part of this recognition, she will receive 1.4 million Canadian dollars over seven years to further her work. This funding also strengthens the collaborations between IDOR and Queen’s University, a long-standing partnership with numerous publications on brain health and neural diseases.

Established in 2000, the Canada Research Chairs program is a national strategy designed to attract and retain exceptional talent, positioning Canada as a global leader in research and innovation. This month, the appointment of researchers was announced by Canada’s Ministry of Innovation, Science, and Industry.
